Hello friends,
Thanks for tuning in this month. A quick note to free subscribers here: I’m making last month’s paid section (all about playing harmonized melodies) available for free — if you’re interested in diving in deeper, I hope you’ll check it out (January’s is free as well) and consider dropping five bucks in the hat. It’s been way fun putting these together.
I have a new record, Horizon, coming out soon on International Anthem; this is a collaboration with my friend and great musician/producer Will Miller, a.k.a. Resavoir. The first single, “Canopy,” is out now, and the record is up for preorder as well. Will and I wrote and recorded this record together over the course of about a year, and we’re super excited to see these songs out in the world — give the single a spin and stay tuned for more.
Some gigs in the Chicago area thru the end of the month:
4.10 Matt Gold (trio) @ Fitzgerald’s (with Junius Paul on bass, Quin Kirchner on drums)
4.19 w/ John Christensen @ the Jazz Estate (Milwaukee, WI)
4.24 w/ Greg Ward’s Rogue Parade @ the Fine Arts Building
4.30 w/ Matt Gold & Storms of Love @ Simon’s
I’d also just like to share something that melted me to my core, in case you’re interested in getting melted to your core too: The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France recently featured the legendary Martha Argerich performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2; the whole thing, recorded and filmed beautifully, is available for free here. The paid section of this month’s newsletter, below, is all about operating from a place of intuition and attention; there is a quality in Argerich’s playing that, to me, always makes it feel like she’s discovering every note in real time, believing in every sound completely.
